Why art?
These days life can be chaotic and stressful - and it is so important to find ways to care for ourselves so we can be healthy and happy.
Expressing ourselves creatively - whether you are an Artist or consider yourself a “dabbler” - is incredibly valuable in multiple ways:
Artistic activity can lower cortisol levels, the stress hormone, and provide a sense of calm by focusing the mind on the present moment. This can induce a state of mindfulness, promoting relaxation and reducing stress.
Improved Mood and Self-esteem:
Artistic activity can evoke positive emotions, provide a sense of accomplishment, and offer a healthy outlet for expressing feelings, potentially combating depression. The creative process can be a journey of self-discovery, helping individuals understand their emotions, build confidence, discover their identity and find purpose.
Improved Problem-Solving Skills:
Artistic activity encourages creative thinking and the ability to approach challenges from different perspectives, which can translate to better problem-solving skills in other areas of life. It encourages individuals to think outside the box, fostering creativity and innovation in various aspects of life.
Sense of Connection and Community:
Participating in art-related activities can foster a sense of belonging and connection with others who share similar interests

A note about me…
I am Becky Wheeler. Throughout my careers as an educator and a nurse, I realize I have always been creative in some way. Whether it was preparing something that would engage teenagers or young adults in the schools where I taught, or finding solutions to challenges faced in health care, there was always a kind of creativity involved. Creating through art is an extension of that inner creativity I believe we all have. I have found I love creating through art because it is a way to find beauty and look at things differently, to make something with my hands, to use my mind in a different way, and to take me away from the external world into an inner, more peaceful place. Along the way I have also always met the most interesting and warm people. I want you to experience all these things too.
